At Hermitage

Nashville, TN

It all seemed nice at the very beginning.

You saw the kids dressing in period style and greeting with smiles.

"Sir, would you like to hear something about Andrew Jackson?"

"Sure!"

The routine soon became boring, almost intolerable because there were two kids at
every displayed item. The introduction only lasted about 3 sentences, and concluded at a
cold comment "Please move along to see more about Andrew Jackson". Thus made a close
look at the artifact or a reading of detailed description seemingly rude to these innocent
kids.

It must be some silly school project, which may cost a fortune from costume preparation
to coordination with Hermitage staff. But kids are just kids. Their enthusiasm wore out
within minutes. After a few recitations of what they were assigned, each repetition
became obviously gruesome to them. The vivid presentation of the 7th President has been
dissembled into tiny pieces, lost in those innocent lookings.

Finally the kids gathered together and had the chance to go inside the house. And finally they
could ask what they really want to know, but would they?
