Located just southeast of Amarillo in Texas panhandle country, Palo Duro is known as the Grand Canyon of Texas. Its colorful exposed geology is different from anywhere else in the state. Colors show up best after cleansing rains, as happened the day before these images were taken.
The canyon's best known and most visited feature is the monolithic "Lighthouse" hoodoo found on a 6-mile round trip hike.
