I am a descendant of Nathanial,Joseph, Joseph and then Edwin Alder, brother to Enoch Alder. Edwin Alder (born about 1808) emigrated with his wife Mercy Aldridge and two children to Sydney, Australia 1839.

Did your grandfather live in England until at least 1919? I would be interested in knowing whether he acquired a barometer from the estate of the late Sir Charles Crookes FRS a famous chemist. He may of given the barometer to a Mr H.J.Hanson and may also been interesrted in cruising boats. I now own the barometer and am trying to find out more of its history.

Hi, great site...I am ALSO researching MY Alder family.John Norman Alder, whom I believe was in the British Army (needs verification) was born in Birmingham in 1871 and came to Cape Town, South Africa via Egypt (his first child George was born there) and India (where my grandmother was born, Mildred Lavinia)...he died in Cape Town in 1957. As a child I remember his fondness for an oatmeal (Porridge) and his many hours spent building crystal radios and tuning in to radio stations all over the world. Certainly fascinated me. Any help or direction would be gratefully appreciated. Thanks so much, Avril Light (nee Clifton)

I have been researching the family of my husband, Robert Whatley. His grandmother was Alice Flora Alder, christened 19 Dec. 1886 in Luton, Kent, England. Any information you could direct me to would be very helpful. Her parents are listed as: Thomas Alder and Alice Isabella (last name (possibly) Bird).

Nice site. I think we have connected before. We are related. My great grandmother (Ellen Alder) d/o Enoch Alder b. 1814 came to Canada from Gloucestershire and married my greatgrandfather who was from Woodchester (they married in Canada). Your Enoch and my Enoch are different but they are related. Our common ancestor is Nathaniel Alder who married Sarah Chandler. Nathaniel has previously (and erroneously) listed as married to a Betsy. I descend from Nathaniel and Sarah's son John who married Hester Church and you descend from their son Joseph who married Mary Williams.

I am searching for Mary Ann Alder born Kings Stanley 1825 ish. Her father is on her marriage certificate as Daniel Dark. She married Thomas Hall in Birmingham. Do you have any record of her in your family. I think her mother was Harriet Alder as she is on the Family Search site but it gives no father. Any help would be great as she was my grt grt grandmother.
