Tombstone, Arizona

I had a disappointing experience at Tombstone, Arizona. My family visited “the town too tough to die” when I was a child and a lot of commercialization has occurred. Historic Allen Street is basically an asphalt road covered with a thin layer of dirt for western ambiance. It seems so sterile and unauthentic. I read that some people want the historic landmark designation removed because the town has turned into a tourist trap.

The last re-enactment of the O.K. corral shootout of the day takes place at 2:00 p.m. and people were rushing to buy tickets to watch the show within a fenced in area where the actual event took place. I did not watch the shootout. I think watching the shootout in the movie “Tombstone” with Kurt Russell and Val Kilmer may provide a better re-enactment.

There are historic places like the Bird Cage Theater, Courthouse, and the Tombstone Epitaph that do give a sense of the architecture and way of life during the boom time of Tombstone.
