PapaL hood vent

PapaL:
You have to make three cuts in the hood, the most important one being the front one as it has to be forward of the front bulkhead so as to not let water into the frunk (front trunk). Use the images as reference. Doing it this way keeps the original frunk seal intact

bmerton:
I did mine a little differently. Rather than using the holey metal mesh stuff PapaL used, I cut my underside to leave that strip of metal that the frunk seal mates against. It was more work, but I think my hood is a bit more structurally sound, thanks to that.

I made my cut roughly in the same place, but curled the metal down next to the steel support I left in place...then I filled in that gap by filling it with a welder and grinding it down. Looks much more like stock than the other way.

Same for the sides. I was able to fill the gaps about 1/3 of the way down from the ends of the cuts by welding and grinding. The rest is finished with body filler.

To enhance the structure at the front edge of the cut, (it's a bit flimsy if you grab it and wiggle it after cutting), I welded a couple of brackets dead center, which gets covered with body filler to make it look like the one large hole is separated into two. I might not do that if I did this again, perhaps choosing to reinforce it by tacking a strip of steel along that edge next time.

PapaL:
Thats exactly what is needed. Mine was the prototype and i never took time to re-do it with welds and stuff. I should of and maybe I'll remake it.
