Livingstone WW2 Airstrip - About 15 Minutes Flying Time North, to Darwin

Livingstone Strip, Northern Territory, Australia

My late father was a fighter pilot and he flew Spitfires from this strip just after the bombing of Darwin. The strip was hastily carved out of the trees when a land invasion in Northern Australia was expected.

Von, it seemed that the surface had been stabilised with used engine oil. Perhaps it also enabled run of in the monsoon season. There were camouflage nets for the aircraft and a couple of buildings. The pilots lived in tents for a while. Nothing is left now.
