Durga Festival is an eye-opening event from West Bengal, India to Honolulu Academy of Arts. Durga Puja, a traditional worship performance, is the most important festival of Bengalis. With funding from National Endowment for Arts, this is the first time that Hawaii gets to see the creation of this Indian tradition. We'd like to take this opportunity to share their artistry from start to finish.
Images taken from Sept 28 to Oct 17, 2004. We have collection of dancers, drummers, artists and their masterpiece - Durga Tableau.
Please, feel free to look at our photo collections before you leave here. Thank you and Aloha!
VERY INTERESTING!! I AM A BENGALI, LIVE IN KOLKATA (CALCUTTA). I HAVE BEEN IN TOUCH WITH A LADY FROM HILO WHO I WISH TO MARRY SOON...WE DO LOVE EACH OTHER A LOT, AND I HAD WISHED SHE WOULD COME DOWN TO KOLKATA DURING DURGA PUJA 2005. BUT SADLY SHE COULD NOT FOR AN UNAVOIDABLE REASON, AND ASKED ME TO SEND HER PICTURES. MAYBE IN 2006, MAA DURGA WILLING, SHE WILL BE HERE TO SEE THE PUJAS IN OCTOBER 06. I AM DELIGHTED THAT FOLKS IN HAWAII ARE ACTUALLY AWARE OF THIS FANTASTIC FESTIVAL, AND DURING THOSE 4 DAYS IE,MAHASAPTAMI, MAHAASTAMI, MAHANAVAMI, DASHAMI, THE ENTIRE CITY OF KOLKATA, NAY INDIA, IS IN PRAYER AND CELEBRATION MODE!!
