a visit to the Austrian Railroad Museum in Straßhof an der Nordbahn

A rainy Tuesday didn't provide great photography or a lot of onsite activity. However, we enjoyed seeing many (rusting) artifacts outdoors, and the working area and storage tracks inside the big former ÖBB roundhouse. Actually, this one isn't "round" but a square building as the turntable is quite a bit removed from the building. Many historic locomotives are kept up here, among them my long time favorite, the former KKStB 2-6-4 310.23 designed by the renowned Mr.Gölsdorf. Museum staff told us that after a three-year break she will be under steam again in 2011 to celebrate her 100th birthday! See more details on www.eisenbahnmuseum-heizhaus.com/
