Chapel on the Rock
Take a closer look there's a statue of Christ atop a cliff in front of the church.
In 1993, Pope John Paul II visited and placed his personal blessing on this chapel.
The founder of Camp St. Malo was Monsignor Joseph Bosetti. He discovered the large rock in his search for a meteor in 1916. The priest was inspired and remembered Jesus’ words to Peter: “Upon this rock, I will build my Church.” (Matt 16:18).
The Chapel was built by the Coulihan Brothers and Charlie Miller in 1935, and dedicated by Archbishop Urban Vehr in 1936 to the honor of Saint Catherine of Siena and in the memory of Mrs. Malo’s mother (land and financial donator), Catherine Smith Mullen.
