Visitors often park near this sign and take pictures. Forest abuts both sides of the road, and the middle fork of the Flathead River is less than a hundred yards away. From this spot, I and many other visitors have walked to the river bank. The Park headquarters building is less than a mile away. This locale is habitat to grizzlies and black bear. The very recent scat in a much visited place reinforces the lesson that bear live in Glacier National Park and nearby locales.

Alternatively, the bears are saying to humanoids, welcome to our home. Respect it and respect us.

I think maybe the bears are just expressing an opinion, perhaps they're unhappy with some park policy? 8^)
