Clean air in Estes Park and RMNP - y P1080072_0924

RMNP viewed from west Estes Park

A cold front came from the North and, despite a high-pressure ridge, air in Estes Park and in the eastern portion of Rocky Mountain National Park was unusually clean. I and my camera visited the same vantage points from which we had documented high levels of particulates, haze, and smog. The clean-air images enable comparisons of image quality and air quality - on dirty-air days and clean-air days. Circa 2009, clean air days in Estes Park and in the eastern portion of Rocky Mountain National Park occur very rarely.

You needed to take each photo in the morning. When the sun is heading behind the mountains, you never get a clear photo showing details.

The air looks remarkably clear - thank goodness for cool air. There's a touch of irony here with the gas station at the feet of beauty.

Lovely image. I like the spot of red. The air does certainly look clear and crisp.
