Hand held. The Town and Country Resort was the setting for the October 2008 conference of Defeat Autism Now!, a process founded by Bernie Rimland, Jon Pangborn, Sid Baker, and colleagues. These conferences are affiliated with the Autism Research Institute and bring together autism parents, nurses, physicians, and prominent researchers from around the world. ARI, DAN!, and numerous individuals have helped change what had been the prevailing NIH paradigm of "must be genetic". Instead, environmental factors and non-mandatory genetic predispositions are understood to be participants in many and perhaps most cases of autism.
