Culloden Battlefield Visitor Centre

The Battle of Culloden was fought on April 16, 1746 between a Jacobite army led by
Prince Charles Edward Stuart (Bonnie Prince Charlie) and a Government army led by
the Duke of Cumberland, Prince William Augustus (second son of George II).
The battle lasted less than an hour, and the Jacobites were defeated, ending the hopes
of the House of Stuart of regaining the British throne.
It was the last battle fought on mainland British soil.
Culloden Battlefield is maintained by the National Trust for Scotland.
