The word safari comes from Swahili meaning journey. My safari was a seven-day road journey covering 3,000 kilometres. Starting on Thursday, 3 December 2010 from Nairobi, capital of Kenya, my three destinations were the Maasai Mara, Lake Nakuru and Amboseli National Park.
I chose an all-road safari rather than fly-in. As a result my body had to endure long periods of butt massage as a large portion of the roads were bumpy, pot-holed or plain unsurfaced, dusty trails.
We also used the Toyota Land Cruiser, the best four-wheel all-terrain safari car, which can travel at even a 30 degree slope on the side and which can have parts of the roof opened for 360-degree viewing.
