I have heard so much about the sand dunes of Sossusvlei. It was inevitable that I would visit it, when a consulting opportunity in Namibia arose.

After a first consulting visit of two weeks, three members of our Singapore project team took an expensive 3-day 2 night trip from Windhoek to Sossusvlei. Our base was the Namib-Naukluft Lodge about an hour away from the entrance to the Park at Sesriem. With a capacity of only 15 rooms, it is in a 25,000 hectare private reserve. When you consider that Singapore's total area is only 71,000 hectares, you begin to understand just how big it is.

The highlight of our trip, of course, was the Namib Naukluft Park where hundreds of sand dunes, with the highest at over 300 metres, are the centre of attraction. Unfortunately, it was very windy when we visited and only foolhardy people dared to climb the dunes.

The other interesting attraction was the Deadvlei. You can "google" or "wiki" the vleis and sand dunes of Namibia to know more about them.
