Witch Head Nebula: IC 2118

Beckwith Township, ON

IC 2118 is an extremely faint reflection nebula believed to be an ancient supernova remnant or gas cloud illuminated by nearby supergiant star Rigel in Orion. Rigel is the large star on the extreme right of the image.

11 x 105 second subs (19.25 minutes accumulative exposure); ISO 1600; F/5 (aperture mask used).
Equipment: Nikon D7200; Nikon 300mm F/4E PF ED VR lens; Sky-Watcher Star Adventurer mini-German Equatorial Mount; Vello Intervelometer; Gitzo 5-Series Tripod; Really Right Stuff BH-40 Ball Head.

Shot in RAW; converted to TIFF files using ACR; Stacked in DSS; processed in CS6.
