Angkor Wat was built between 1113 and 1150- with a few additions occuring later. There is a HUGE moat around the entire temple which is actually behind me from this view point. There is so much literature I read about the symbolism associated with this temple. Basically, Angkor Wat is the "microcosm of the Hindu universe"- That's all I will say on that, but there is so much research on this, feel free to dive in.
