Painting of Elizabeth I (1533-1603) by an unknown artist - this is part of the National Portrait Galleries collect. Queen Elizabeth is shown richly dressed, wearing a heart-shaped jewel pendant and holding a white ostrich feather. This portrait was not the result of a sitting but instead uses a face pattern from an earlier portrait of the Queen. This is one of a group of similar portraits which together provide evidence of the increased demand for the Queen's image in the 1580's.
