Mexican Nationals make small trinkets and walking sticks, then they cross the Rio Grande and leave them for tourist to purchase. It is illegal to buy them and there are signs about warning people that they will have their goods confiscated if they are caught. Still the lure of a bargain is strong and this seems to be a thriving business.
