Birds of Qatar - species collections

Birds of Qatar is my photography passion to collect as much as possible bird species found and live in Qatar. Not only endemic but mostly migratory that show up during winter from northern hemisphere. As of catalog it is expected two hundreds species could be found in Qatar. So far i got perhaps 76 species; which some had been identified but some still need to educate myself to get their name.

Bird photography is a challenge to me as amateur. First, it is testing the passion in learning bird behavior; where and when it can be found, how the best approach to produce sizable quality picture and a lot of luck. Birding kind of Paparazzi job, they don't like private life disturbance. They are not a photo-model, rarely stay at the same place for so long, cautious; so most of the photo should be taken in farther distance which at the end need a longer lenses. Use 50-500 mm Sigma lense in D300s body. Sometime use HX100V (non LSR camera) having it's advantage of 800 mm equivalent variable lenses, but good in very bright day only.

Some of the photos were taken in Al-khor community which provide plenty of greenery for the bird living in the desert; it is like oasis island in the desert. I take advantage approaching by car and shutting out from the car, which advantage for me that they are not scare enough; otherwise an alternate way in camouflage may be required. In return, i may get stare from passersby folks, which said, what the heck this guy doing..!
