The Commons

The Columbus Commons (c.1978-2008, Cesar Pelli) was a unique shopping mall located in downtown, uniting the amenities of the indoor mall with the downtown business district. It featured a renovated indoor playground, a major sculpture (Chaos 1), a modest food court, a branch of the Indianapolis Museum of Art, a three screen art cinema, a performance / assembly space, and a Sears. However, after years of decline, portions of the mall were demolished in 2008 as part of the city's 2020 development plan.
