"Michigan's city by the bay" is a major port on Saginaw Bay / Lake Huron and grew significantly during the lumber era. It's numbers swelled with immigrants from central and eastern europe during the industrial era and generations of present and former autoworkers still populate this revitalizing city. Neighborhoods grew around large Roman Catholic and Protestant parishes and ethnic heritages are still recognized and celebrated.
