Michelle, Chazzy, and I spent the day birding one of the most beautiful spots along the Clinch Mountain on Saturday. It was time for the annual Blackford/Russell County Christmas Bird Count for the Audubon Society and we could not have asked for better weather. With deep blue skies filled with tumbleweed clouds, light breezes, and temperatures approaching 70 degrees, it was a perfect day for birding. Eagles were out on the wind and we spotted three Bald Eagles over Laurel Bed Lake and two Golden Eagles over Beartown Mountain. Waterfowl put in a good showing at the lake with Canvasbacks, Bufflehead, Ring-necked, Mallard, Black, Pintail, and Ruddy Ducks on the water. Overall, one of the best Christmas Bird Counts I have ever participated in.
