Tahquamenon Falls is a must see for any trip to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. It is one of the largest falls east of the Mississippi with a 50 foot drop and is almost 200 feet across. A unique feature of the falls is the tea-colored water that results from tannins leached from the hemlock and spruce forest, which the river drains. We had fun watching an otter catch crayfish in the water below the falls. The Tahquamemon Falls Brewery and Pub at the entrance to the falls trail is a great place to stop after a long day of hiking. We had two meals here and we highly recommend it.
