Michelle, Chazzy and I decided to hike part of the Sheltowee Trace Trail around the western ridge of Cave Run Lake this morning. Pine Warblers were everywhere and we heard our first Blue-headed Vireo of 2010. Flowers are starting to bloom and we found our first Bluets along the ridges. Insects were out and we also saw a Fence Lizard and a Five-lined Skink. We watched a pair of Red-shouldered Hawks calling to each other over the ridge. Water birds included Gadwall, Mallards, Hooded Merganser, Canada Geese, and Pied-billed Grebes. It was a great day to be out enjoying the forest.
