Michelle, Ed III, Ed Jr. and Chazzy Talbott decided to make a run though Burke's Garden today. The weather was beautiful, even with the typical chilly wind of the Garden present. Late in the morning we ran into Don Carrier, and we all enjoyed birding together. We were hoping for a Lapland Longspur or maybe a Snow Bunting but had to settle for eagles and hawks, ha. We found a pair of perched Bald Eagles and two soaring Golden Eagles. A dark-morph Rough-legged Hawk was a first for us. Ed, Jr. got a life bird, a Loggerhead Shrike. Other birds of interest included a second Loggerhead Shrike, 33 Green-winged Teal, a Horned Grebe, 13 Black Ducks, a juvenile Red-headed Woodpecker, 6 Kestrels, and over a dozen Ravens. Overall, it was a good day of birding.
