Chazzy and I made an early morning hike up to the East Pinnacle in Berea Woods this morning. The sky was beautiful as the first rays lit the mountains and we had the trail all to ourselves. Warblers are back and we noted L. Waterthrush, Pine, Yellow-rumped, and Black-and-white. Other migrants included Brown Thrasher, Phoebes, Gnatcatchers, and Blue-headed Vireo. A check of Owsley lake revealed Green-winged Teal, Wild Turkey, Swamp Sparrows, and a single Ruby-crowned Kinglet. The marsh at the headwaters of the lake held several pair of Wood Ducks and many Tree Swallows. Overall, a great morning of birding.
