Ducks on ice
January 10

Tried taking pictures of gulls and ducks walking on a mostly frozen lake.
Discovered that I don't know how to tell a duck to pose; also discovered that I need a longer telephoto lens..... Ah well, enjoy.

Thanks, jypsee. Those are all excellent ideas, techniques I've learned but didn't think about when I was standing out there in the snow. Guess that's the value of PAD - it'll give me a lot of practical experience.

I see you want suggestions, so.... try a wider aperture for more light and it will also give you a faster shutter speed which will mitigate any camera shake. At 300mm you need at least 1/300s to overcome long lens shake. I can't see what ISO you're using... so you might want to set it higher since the day is dark. HTH
