We spent four nights at the Aspen Queenstown Hotel on a hill overlooking Lake Wakatipu. This area is known as a "world centre for adventure sports" and works hard to live up to its reputation.
Hang gliding, parasailing, bungy jumping, white-water rafting, heli-skiing, fly-fishing, horseback riding, scenic flights, and boat tours can all be arranged with a call to the front desk.
The main town is off to the left in this photo, with restaurants, shops, grocery stores, and a delightful French bakery. Traffic in town was terrible, but there were a number of parking lots inviting tourists to explore the town on foot.
