Plaka is the capital of Milos and the seat of the municipality of Milos, which includes Milos and the nearby rocky islets. According to the 2011 census, it has 749 inhabitants. It took the name Plaka from the flat ground on which the houses were built when the Castle was no longer enough to house the population. It is built at an altitude of 220 meters, overlooking the bay of Milos.
