Eight Avenue

To Roy Birger Nilsen, who asked for it

This is a small park that leads to Eight Avenue, once known colloquially as 'Lapskaus Boulevard', named after the Norwegian salted beef stew. Signy's Imports, owned by Signy Ellertsen, the last Norwegian store in the neighbourhood, closed in 2004. The whole avenue, from 39th Street to 64th, is now totally Chinese.

Thanks, Ray for sharing the history. Glad that it remains as a very nice place, with lovely rows of green.

Interesting story, Ray.
Love how that shadow under the tree cover actually looks like a spruce tree, thanks to a perfect exposure.
