Achill Island in County Mayo is the largest island off the coast of Ireland, and is situated off the west coast. It has a population of 2,700. Its area is 148 km2 (57 sq miles). Achill is attached to the mainland by the Michael Davitt Bridge. A bridge was first completed here in 1887. The superb panoramic view from the top of Minaun Heights (466 metres) is one of the highlights of anyone's visit to Achill Island. A tarmac road allows you to drive up to a large parking area about 1 km from the actual summit.
From here you overlook Keel Beach with views to Croaghaun out to the west, to the south, you look over to Dooega and The Atlantic Drive not to mention the distant hills of Connemara. Minaun is the place to go to get a fabulous overview of the island. although I have yet to take a panorama shot with my camera I find the phone to be excellent for this purpose.
