I just preset the apperature to F8 once before I went to yosemite by using my Canon 40D. This is how you set it
1) Put the lens on my Canon 40D
2) Change the apperature to the sweet spot of that lens depending on what you want to shoot, most of the time it's F5.6 to F8 for the scenery.
3) Leave it on, hold down the depth of field button in front of the camera and remove the lens
The apperature will stay at that setting until you change it back on the Canon body
I'm crazy about the photography again with my NEX because of all the great old lenses out there, beside that it's so light that you don't have to lift weight every time you are out for shooting! :-)
