I selected this photograph because of the 2 girl's smiles.
They are sitting in their classroom which has no glass in its' windows.
The bars are all that keeps the winter chill away from the students.
The only source of warmth is a small kero heater at the front of the room.
This school is located in a very poor village close to Zakho, the only border
crossing point between Turkey and Iraq. We visited the school today to select
some children to participate in our 2 week workshops
on photography, painting and drama.
