My first visit to the Shuttleworth Collection at Old Warden, Beds, UK, this year. A wonderful, relaxing afternoon at a truly lovely airfield, with a selection of aircraft you won't find anywhere else. The main attraction for me was the Travel Air Type R Mystery Ship, a replica of a US racing aircraft from the late 1920s: I'd not seen it before, and it is absolutely beautiful. It flew with another racer, the Percival Mew Gull, a British racer from the 30s. The BBMF contributed two Spitfires which gave a wonderful dynamic display, with excellent topside passes for the crowd as they came round the dog-leg of the display line. There was also an Old Warden special - limbo dancing by four aircraft where they fly low under a line strung between two poles held up by (very brave) volunteers. Along with a host of local and visiting aircraft, it was an extremely enjoyable event, and quite a change of pace after the fast jets of RIAT not long before.
