Dear Little Dorothy Dimple
I’ve broken my doll and I’m feeling so sorry,
Oh! dear! I don’t know what to do.
I let Susie Smith have her just for a moment
To try on her new satin shoes
And I know that she bump’d her or squeez’d her too tightly
She shan’t have my doll any more.
For altho’ I dropped her she fell very lightly
her head went all over the floor.
Dear little Dorothy Dimple
I’m as sorry as sorry can be
For your eyes had the cunningest twinkle
And you were so dear to me.
Perhaps I shall get me another
But Dorothy dear, don’t you care
For I never could love her as I do love you.
My Dorothy Dimple Dear.
My dear little doll always did as I told her,
She never was cross or was bad.
And once, when she got a bad bump on her shoulder
Took medicine just when I said.
But I’m sure now her poor little heart must be broken
Altho’ to be careful I tried.
Do you think she knows I am sorry now
even if she is all sawdust inside?
