Adelie Penguins

Pronounced Uh-DELL-ee. One of two penguin species in this region. These penguins are NOT the ones who winter over with their eggs on their feet (those are Emporers, the ones in the movie). These birds come ashore in summer and built nests of small rocks, in colonies such as the one at Cape Royds (photos in this website). They lay two eggs and take turns hiking out to the water to bring back food for the chicks, who grow up and leave before the winter arrives.
These guys are shorter than Emporers and they run, carrying their flippers out. They are very cute, whereas Emporers only walk and carry their flippers down. Emporers aren't cute (except chicks), but instead they seem more sophisticated and elegant.
