Okayyy ... meet our new 'project'! A 1971 Ford Escort Mk1, purchased in April 2008.

Originally a 1098cc Saloon, first registered on 17 June 1971, now has a 1600cc Mk2 engine, converted for unleaded. Also has replacement alloy wheels, lowered suspension, and ‘noisy’ non original exhaust. Has capri front brakes. Although not one of the more desirable sporty models, she suited our budget, she looks good, and she’s great fun to drive!

As far as we know the interior is pretty much original, with the exception of the rear seat (now changed back to original!), and upgraded seat belts. We assume the body colour is original (or something near to original, anchor blue perhasps? Looks like there has been a re-spray at some point), but if you know different, please tell me.

As anyone who knows me will know, I've always wanted an old Ford Capri ... well, when this came up for sale on our road, I was smitten. It's not quite the JPS capri I would have liked, but it was a lot cheaper, and still quite a looker!

It's going to be a work in progress - the interior is tatty, and the exterior needs some work on rust and chips, but basically it's a sound little car (we had friends check, thanks Sue and Jay!). Plan to take her to a few rallies this year, and then hopefully over the years replace the grotty bits as and when we can (ie when we have some money!). Already added an 'O' to the rear boot, changed the back seat, changed a window winder, added the heater decal, repaired some of the vinyl and changed the steering wheel and dash top.
