Despite living on the coast all of my life, I have NEVER really been crabbing (though have obviously played in rock pools lots!). This year we were at a bit of a loose end whilst on holiday in Dorset (Weymouth Harbour that day) and brought a bucket, line and net, and decided to give it a go. Definitely got hooked, and have now discovered a great place about 5 minutes away from home to catch crabs, which is great!

My finest hour had to be catching a rather large fish (mullet, sea bass?!) on Poole Quay though. Managed to land it in my little crab net, and then stood there looking a bit pathetic and wondering what to do next. Luckily one of the now-gathered onlookers found a bottle discarded on the Quayside, and hit it over the head for me. It's was taken back the campsite, gutted and frozen, and is now in our freezer awaiting an appropriate time and recipe!

The crabs are returned to the sea, though I have to admit the latest lot of shrimp weren't so lucky - they were very yummy though, if you like that sort of thing! :)

NOTE: 'Overcrowded' crabs were merged from my collection of buckets to illustrate the total quantity caught on a particular day - they were not left for any length of time that densely packed!
