Some of the elements in this design resemble how I've read the seal's roost described, but other elements I've read about don't appear in this example. But it is definitely elaborate, and certainly a masterful opus which I hope you are very proud of.

Do you use natural and traditional dyes? The coloring is very vivid! I am curious about how much time you put into a project like the this Twana flat bag with the seal's roost and dog border? It is just marvelous--literally marvelous.

Wow that is just awesome! My name is Michael McCoy, and I am studying basketry in a class through the Evergreen State College's RBCD program, and I am somewhat enamored of the intricacy involved in Twana styles. I am also working part time as research assistant for an ethnobotany research project for my tribe, the Quinault Nation. It is good to know that this art is still alive, although it is unfortunately not as vibrant as it should be; a lot of young people just don't seem to be interested. So sad. I hope you have an apprentice or three! From what I gather (mostly from what I have read in "From the Hands of a Weaver")the seal's roost is one of the most complex motifs among the Twana tradition. You are obviously very talented. Thank you for sharing your work!
