Buenos Aires, Argentina

sweltering heat in Buenos Aires, a very long flight, but here I am on the other side of the world at last. Guess what? My camera got busted!!! The lcd is broken. I have to use scotch tape this week. The Llao Llao hotel is great but I'm definately grouchy. Tomorrow the Andes with a broken camera.

As somebody else said, the picture is made by the photographer, not the camera. You manage to express the character of this man, telling us not only what he does, but who he is. The fact that the camera is partially disabled does not matter-- what matters is that you did not let that become an excuse for not making this image, one of your most expressive portraits to date, Anna. And you also learned another lesson. Cameras are machines, and machines are always vulnerable to breakage or failure. Always carry a backup camera with you, wherever you go.

My sympathies. You must be heartbroken. You have captured a wonderful indigenous face here!

Oh nooo - bummer about the camera! Glad it still works though - think of it as a challenge :)

Great picture - I like the blurred lights behind him echoeing the colours in his uniform

I was here three years ago but had to settle for a photo of the hotel from my boat. I had stayed in a hostel and was beginning the journey through the Lake District to Chile. Beautiful place!

It's one thing to capture good images with a top-notch camera, but it's another thing to grab a great shot with the camera disabled! This is the work of an expert photographer with a wonderful eye! (The photographer is in good shape and that's what counts!) Shu
