The Imperial War Museum was established by the Act of Parliament in 1920. Its purpose is to collect, preserve and display material and information connected with military operations in which Britain and the Commonwealth have been involved since 1914.

Duxford, a historic fighter station served during two world wars. It played an important role in the Battle of Britain and from 1943 to the end of the war was a United States Army Air Force fighter base.

Imperial War Museum Duxford is an exciting mix of old and new. Many of the original buildings are preserved as they were during the 1940s but there are several more recent developments such as the Land Warfare Hall, American Air Museum in Britain and Airspace.
