Anitta Vuorisola

This guy is touchingly adorable!
Every time I go to my forest feeding, a faint, almost non-existent beeping starts to be heard.
Soon he flies over to say hello. Can you imagine anything smaller than
a Goldcrest's egg? It weighs one gram. The bird itself weighs 4.5-7 grams.
Some of the Goldcrests migrate to south for winter, but many of them stay in Finland.

In harsh winters, all Goldcrests can die almost completely.
Not so much for the cold, but for the lack of food.
I use a power blender to crush peanuts into small crumbs to fit in his tiny mouth.
The Goldcrest (Regulus regulus) is the smallest bird in Europe.

Dear Anitta, your goldcrest is quite engaging...and maybe it is related to our (USA) golden crown kinglet who is also very small and lives in the cold climes of New England and Canada in fir trees! Thanks for your photo.

In this position and silhouette, he looks like a ball in a Christmas tree. O/_____V
