My eldest granddaughter is in volunteer service in the Finnish Defence Forces.
A universal male conscription is in place, under which all men above 18 years of age serve for 165, 255 or 347 days.
Alternative volunteer service by women (about 500 chosen annually) is possible.
She started in the beginning of July and today she had the Oath of Allegiance to Finland.
There are 50 men and only five women in her troop.
She won the golden medal for shooting (see the medal on her jacket), only one woman got it and just a few men.
Here she's marching to the place where they gave the oath.
