Along with all the bounty from Constantinopole came the two huge granite columns to St Mark Square.
The column is surmounted by a huge bronze of the Lion of St Mark. In September 1990 the 3000 kg (3-ton) beast went to British Museum in London
for extensive restoration, and was returned with great ceremony and skill to the top of the column.
