Walking the Walls, Dubrovnik

The walk is scenic and breathtaking.
”The Sunday Times” has published a list of 50 most beautiful walking tours in the world - and the city walls of Dubrovnik was ranked second.

About the roofs... There is a random arrangement of colors — some a bold orange and others a faded yellowish-gray.
But the pattern isn't really random;
it marks the damage when Serb mortars poured over the hill as Yugoslavia broke apart in 1991.
During the eight-month siege of Dubrovnik,
about 100 civilians died and more than 30,000 fled their homes.

Shiny new tiles cover those roofs that had to be replaced.
It's clear that nearly two-thirds of the buildings in the city were bombed.

You had a nice day here. It was wet and stormy the day I did the walk. I like the perspective you have chosen for this photo. V

You captured such wonderful images of this beautiful place. And it's so discouraging to hear about the stupidity and futility of war!
