Amish community moved to Pennsylvania in 1700. The population right now is 27,000 next to Ohio which is the biggest Amish population in United States. They speak 3 languages, German English and Pennsylvania dutch. They use English at school, German at the church and PA dutch in daily life. In Amish's family, there is no electrocity is allowed. Things that are supplied with electrocity will be replaced with gas. There is no TV in the house. Cell phone is allowed to be used, however it has to be used outside of the house for emergency purposes. Driving is not allowed, but they are allowed to get a ride. Whenver it is necessary they can get a ride from "English man" (Amish call people whoever outside of their society as English man). Amish people move around with the carriges.
There are 3 colors are allowed to be painted on the wall, blue green and white. Blue stands for sky, green stands for nature and white stands for purity. Things are not allowed to be hung on the wall unless it has certain purposes such as calender or the sewing pockets with scissors or sewing utilities. There is no curtains in the Amish's house.
Amish people go to the church every other Sunday, when there is no church on Sunday, they visit their friend. Church is orgnized by every 25 families, each family has the responsibility to hold the prayer twice a year, in that day the family holds the lunch for others. If something happens with one family, others will gather around and help each other so the church is basically considered as the "insurance".
Amish people have 8 grades at school, they are allowed to choose the freedom when they reach 16. 10% of people are said to select English society and 90% select to stay with Amish. Every 20 years the population is doubled. Amish people do not like to be taken picture of so you won't see many Amish people's photos in this gallery. :)
