I got my collar felt taking this one. Two guys were onboard coming over from Birmingham Airport and got off at the NEC. They were wearing suits, I assumed they were on a business trip or returning home. One of them was literally glaring at me as he got off the shuttle, I carried on taking photographs and thought nothing more about it. A couple of minutes later I heard "Excuse me Sir, can I ask why you are taking photographs?"
I turned round, it was the same two guys, this time with suit jackets opened so I could see their Airport Security Team i.d. cards hanging around their necks.
I told them I was just trying to get a shot for my website and it was totally innocent, he took me at my word and that was the end of the matter.
On the one hand I don't mind that he asked me, you can't be too careful in this terrorist-sensitive climate we find ourselves in. But a part of me was so offended I wish I'd let rip at him, I wasn't taking pictures of anything secretive, sensitive or acting in anyway suspicious. I had my 5yr old Daughter hanging on my leg quite concerned at her Daddy being questioned, if I were a Security Guy I wouldn't pick me as an obvious threat.
What made this all the more ironic was a few minutes after they left, a group of four 20-something's wearing backpacks got off the shuttle in high spirits. One was snapping everything around him with a camera phone, another was doing the same with a digital camera, while a third filmed it all on a Camcorder! The fourth one just laughed his head off and guzzled on a can of beer!
I guess I must look dodgy after all!
