The Eagle Nebula

Loftus, NSW

Messier 16 in Serpens Cauda is a bright star-forming region located about 7,000 light-years away towards the centre of our Galaxy. It contains a bright open star cluster, surrounded by a large emission nebula. It is probably now most famous for the "Pillars of Creation" Hubble image - the three pillars are dark eroding columns of dust near the centre of the image, being lit by the bright star cluster members towards the upper middle of the frame.

Seeing conditions weren't great, so the stars are a bit fuzzy.
