Petra became famous well before it was announced as one of the new Seven Wonders of the World in 2007. The monument generally known as the Treasury was used in the movie Indiana Jones - The Last Crusade back in 1989.

Without a doubt, the Treasury located at the end of the Siq and the Monastery located high in the mountain at the western end of Petra are the two major monuments in the ancient City of Petra. The monuments in Petra, in particular the Treasury, displays different shades of red under the sunlight during the day.

We spent three days in Petra to enjoy this legendary ancient city. On the first day, our guide shown us the Siq, the Treasury and we took donkey ride to the High Place of Sacrifice in order to watch the city from the mountain in the south. On the second day, we rode horses to Little Petra so that we can see the city from the north. On the third day, we hiked along the mountain in the west to reach the Monastery and then walked down to Petra.

On the third day, we also joined an event called Petra By Night. The 800m long Siq and the place in front of the Treasury were lit up by hundreds of candle placed inside paper bags. We joined other tourists walking under the starry sky to the Treasury and sat there where the Bedouins played their traditional acoustic music and served us with a cup of tea. An event not to be missed.
